Anesthesia billing vs general medical billing: different math, different failures

If you searched 'medical billing company' and landed here, stay. Anesthesia is not billed like office visits or surgery fee schedules. ClearBilling bills only anesthesia, onshore, for over 25 years. A general biller can submit a claim. That is not the same as getting the units right.

The math is different

General billing: CPT, diagnosis, maybe a modifier, fee schedule. Anesthesia: base units + time units + modifying units, times a conversion factor, with AA or QZ for who did the case and QS when it was MAC. A team trained on E/M and surgery will not notice a 12-minute time error or a QZ that should have been AA.

The compliance is different

AA vs QZ, QS on MAC, CRNA opt-out rules, and time capture are not 'also anesthesia.' They are the job. A 40-specialty company will list anesthesia on a page like this one and still run your claims through a general edit set.

The hiring test

Ask a general medical billing company when they use AA vs QZ vs QS. If the answer is a brochure, keep looking. We wrote the modifier pages because that is daily work. We do not bill medical direction.

We still want people who searched 'regular billing'

Some groups type 'medical billing services' because they do not know the specialty term. If you do anesthesia, you do not want a regular biller. You want an anesthesia biller. That is us. We will not offer to take your clinic's primary-care book to close the deal.

FAQ

Straight answers for practices comparing anesthesia billing companies.

Can a good general billing company learn anesthesia?

Individuals can. Companies rarely staff it. If anesthesia is 8% of their book, your QZ will lose to their dermatology queue.

Do you do any non-anesthesia billing?

No. Exclusively anesthesia, including CRNA and anesthesiologist workflows.
