Anesthesia billing vs general medical billing: different math, different failures

The math is different
General billing: CPT, diagnosis, maybe a modifier, fee schedule. Anesthesia: base units + time units + modifying units, times a conversion factor, with AA or QZ for who did the case and QS when it was MAC. A team trained on E/M and surgery will not notice a 12-minute time error or a QZ that should have been AA.
The compliance is different
AA vs QZ, QS on MAC, CRNA opt-out rules, and time capture are not 'also anesthesia.' They are the job. A 40-specialty company will list anesthesia on a page like this one and still run your claims through a general edit set.
